What would be a good resume?

What are the good ways to prepare a resume with 2-3 years experience in IT industry? what should be the content?

  • I have 3 years experience as a Technical consultant. This is my first job. I wonder how to impress a recruiter? With the experience I have, I can only prepare a "1-page" resume without any nonsense filled in it. One of the recruiter came back asking for a detailed resume, as he thought it's just a summary. I have used Latex document preparation system for my resume.

  • Answer:

I am not a resume expert, but usually one page resume is fine and that is the one you should normally use. From my experience shorter resumes are better, for long resumes interviewer/recruiter loose focus while reading. In your case, if HR is asking, create a 2-3 page resume explaining your projects. Also, it could be the case that your resume really looks like a summary. So, you might want to change your resume to a better looking single page resume. Take help of your friends and colleagues. If need be take professional help. I have never used LaTeX. But I think any editor or markup language is fine, if your resume looks good. My own resume lies in one-and-a-half page. I used following  http://www.thegoogleresume.com/uploads/6/5/2/8/6528028/gayle_laakmann_-_business_resume.doc by Gayle Laakmann. Though I changed section ordering and formatting a bit. But rest of the ordering and presentation looks the same. I think, among many on Internet, this template is very good for reference.

Well, in resume, I only following LinkedIn structure. It's already prepared there, and we can use it to be our online resume, or copy it's structure to write down our own resume.

You don't "impress" a recruiter. You document where you have worked and what you accomplished - if it's not action-oriented, it's not worth anyone's time to read.
