  Without doubt, Stanford University has the best startup resources for aspiring entrepreneurs. points out several reasons such as proximity to investors and the startup ecosystem. Stanford has several incubators such as BASES and StartX, and a huge alumni network of startup founders and investors. UC Berkeley also has great resources for entrepreneurs with CITRIS, the Fung Institute, CET, SkyDeck, and more. While there aren't any big VCs based in Berkeley, a lot of investors visit Cal frequently to give talks, recruit students, and help startups. There are also a bunch of Tier 1 high quality angel investors in the Berkeley area. Stanford gets a lot of attention for putting out startups like Google, but Berkeley is just a bit shy. Sandisk, Sun, Apple, Marvell, Rightscale, Mozy, Tesla Motors, Nicira, and VMware were all founded by Berkeley alums. Harvard and MIT also have top-notch startup resources. Several good VCs have offices in Boston, both universities have an abundance of engineering talent, and the alum network is full of successful entrepreneurs. I would also include Carnegie Mellon.
