How I can put my friends in group?

I'm in a LDR. When I put up a nice dress for a formal dinner (with a group of friends), my sister said to me, 'but you already have a boyfriend'. Which really upset me, but I don't know how to explain why I'm upset to her. Help?

  • Answer:

You dress for yourself because you love yourself and it makes you happy to look nice and attractive. Also, how terrible life would be if you stopped dressing up just because you have a partner (what would your partner think?!) Your body does not exist to be dressed up for the sole purpose of attracting men. Your sister is the one who needs an attitude adjustment.

Unless your dress had, "Looking for Love" in rhinestones, you did nothing wrong. It is always appropriate to dress for the situation. If you go to a nice restaurant for dinner, then a dress is a great thing to wear. What else would you wear, a matronly pantsuit? Not everyone likes to wear trousers.

What would she have said if you didn't dress nicely for the formal dinner? I have a feeling she might have criticized you then, too.  Sisters can be like that at times.  My point is, your sister's implied criticism says more about her than about you.  Don't let it get to you.  Continue to dress appropriately and attractively no matter what she says.
