Why does Bangalore have the worst roads after paying the highest road tax in the country?
-
The cost of buying a vehicle in Bangalore is higher than buying the same vehicle in any other state, thanks to the ~18.9 % road tax we pay here. And after all this Bangalore's roads are a shame for a city that is the IT hub of India, where the public transport system is in shambles and office goers sooner or later are forced to become vehicle owners. Is it right to file a case, in spite of paying high road tax people get bad roads?

Answer:
Someone said "Bangalore roads aren't that bad." Please check this. And I can assure that this is not the worst road.

Quality of roads is much better than other cities like mumbai/pune/hyderabad. I feel the sudden increase in vehicles is causing the problems. I think the roads are wide & if it is a one way then u get 5,6 lens of vehicles which may not be much traffic but looks huge once you approach them. The duration of signals is too much & its uniform. I mean there are many places where you get traffic in only one direction at a time but signals make the vehicles in both directions wait/go for same amount of time which is frustrating at points. They could do some big data traffic analysis to determine number of vehicles travelling in particular direction & use in signals to dynamically change waiting time for vehicles in a particular direction at junction. btw i have seen some dudes daily bringing car like innova to office. :D. :P I hear from seniors that blore was quiet & traffic free city half a decade ago.

Here are a few straight-forward reasons: Population: Bangalore is one of the most populated cities in the country (8.426 million according to the 2011 census). Bangalore's population has increased by a staggering 65% over the last 10 years (2001-2011). The administration simply hasn't been able to cope up. Traffic volume: The official figure for the vehicle population is almost 4.2 million (up to 29 Feb 2012). That's 1 vehicle for every 2 individuals! (Source: http://www.bangaloretrafficpolice.gov.in/index.php). (Note: These are the registered vehicles' figures. Actual number could be even higher.) Bad co-ordination: There is little, or in few cases zero communication between civic bodies like http://bwssb.org/, http://bescom.org/, http://www.bbmp.gov.in/, leading to situations like the following. (Personal experience: 1/3rd of a newly laid road in my locality was dug up to lay new drains.) Evolving public infrastructure: http://bmrc.co.in/ is expected to be the solution to the city's traffic and road woes. While phase 1 has been completed and is open to public, other phases are very much a work in progress. It's ironic that the construction work currently underway is a prime reason for various traffic bottlenecks across the city. Extremely poor quality of work: The universal fact about most Indian road construction contractors. No elaboration needed. Public apathy: Not just limited to Bangalore. The picture below says it all. First of all, the public transport system is far from being in shambles. It is the sheer volume which proves detrimental to the infrastructure. I feel the main reasons for the condition of roads are - People don't complain. No Sir, we forget about the roads as soon as we reach our offices or homes. It is the Government which is supposed to periodically keep reading our minds. Nor do we register ourselves as voters. Oh, we are not really from Bangalore, you know. Our native place is someplace else. I am just here on a temporary basis. The quasi - planned nature of the roads - most of the roads have been constructed because of adhoc needs with no precautions and follow ups. The number of vehicles is quite high.

Its simple.Because People dont complain and dont vote for good people. Bangalore has highest percentage of non voter population when compared to other Tier1 cities.Half of the problems we face in India can be solved if we all spend couple of hours on Voting day voting for right people. On side note, if you are complaining about Public Transportation system of Bangalore, iam not sure what would you say when i tell you the truth that Bangalore Public transport is THE best in India.

Looks like nobody answered the original question posed. If the amount of road tax which gets collected is used towards building and maintaining roads in Bangalore we will be next only to the best city in the world. The main problem is- Bangalore is a cash cow to the state government - The revenue earning potential in a state of 60 million is concentrated only in one city of 10 million. So, basically what the state government earns in Bangalore has to be spread about to other poorer districts. Unlike states like Maharashtra which has multiple cities with great infrastructure, politicians in Karnataka have been short sighted , corrupt and are now showing the tendency to just milk the cow dry. Second issue has been tendency of voters to vote one party to the center and then vote another at the state level.

I am from Delhi and lived in Bangalore for 2+ years between '12-'14. I do have some good to very good experiences from the city but in roads and infrastructure I rate Bangalore worst of the lot. Bangalore is extremely business oriented city. Lack of civic sense, poor quality of work and budget issues with respect to demands is what the authorities failed to deliver to the public. Except few stretches on NH7 I never found Bangalore roads enjoyable or drivable even though there are many flyovers built-in or under considruction @ ORR. On contrary I am happy to see not even a single scratch on cars and local transport. People love their vehicles and take good care compared to any other city in India. Planning could have been much-much better. I stayed in Bannerghatta road and there is a locality called Gottigere. There were many construction projects going on but no road construction to handle 1500+ upcoming houses. Its the law of land to provide adequate roads, water and electricity first before builders can kick off projects Neeladhri road is one such example of callous adminstration. Years have passed, followed by local protests but who cares? Residents have no option but to ride on mud slinging crests and troughs. Summing up, if existing city was not big enough to provide adequate facilities to locals, expats or outsiders, why didn't the authorities planned outskirts to meet demands? We have good examples of Cyberabad, Noida, Greater Noida, Greater Faridabad, Navi Mumbai. Most of the IT companies are shifting their base from Bangalore to somewhere else, will the civic authorities wake up as its already too late

Its simple.Politicians, PWD officers eat up all your taxes. Considering their salary these guy have lavish homes in posh locality( 6 - 8 crore). Where does this come from ? your taxes dude. Our hard earned money. Bangalore has worst in infrastructure compared to any other city in india. Even villages near by my town have good roads.Bash me Iâm from karnataka :)Its the truth

Cities like Delhi and Mumbai are shifting towards signal free roads and intersections while bangalore still has huge gigantic pot holes and immensely narrow roads to deal with! Is this city organized at all?
