How do you maintain a positive attitude while being unemployed?

How do you maintain a positive attitude regarding patient care once you are thrown into the demanding world of health care?

  • Answer:

Maybe first ask yourself why you did choose the profession. Keep in mind you are just human, so are not perfect, although being a professional means you must behave professionaly towards all, you will like some better than others, and you have the right to demand a decent non abusive approach from the patients.  A health professional has the right to ask the patient to look for care elsewhere, if the patient's behaviour remains unacceptable usually that means abusive despite repeated warnings from us. Your attitude towards the profession in general for you should be more  important than that on an individual level.  The positieve experiences will keep you afloat. On an Intensive. care unit, where mortality usually is around 20%, the patients who after a critical period with lots of stress, sadness and fear nonetheless survive make us feel we are doing something useful, cheer us up, so we are able to stomach some more disappointments. If you mean the mental stress it can bring, better look for another job with a lower level of stress...
