Why Are There No Triple Affine Hecke Algebras?

Why did the paper "Generators of matrix algebras in dimension 2 and 3" take 11 years to be published after being submitted?

  • Aslaksen, Helmer, and Arne B. Sletsjøe. "Generators of matrix algebras in dimension 2 and 3." Linear Algebra and its Applications 430.1 (2009): 1-6. (follow-up of )

My father is a colleague of the authors, so I got in touch with Helmer Aslaksen through him. He pointed me to an open facebook post where he had commented the article: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=3101743535864&set=a.3090758621248.2147016.1032472381&type=1&relevant_count=1 Here is his comment in full: It's a long (no pun intended) story. The editor and the referees did a great job, and the paper went through two complete rewrites based on substantial suggestions from two referees. To be honest, I don't remember all the details about the delays, so what I'm writing now is just based on what I remember without checking old e-mail records. At one stage I was slow in submitting a revision. There were times when I believe the problem was that the editor had trouble getting responses from the referee. And at one stage I was not getting e-mail replies from the editor. I can't remember the details, but I suppose there was some problem with spam filtering or mail forwarding or something like that. When I contacted the editor through a third party, it got sorted out immediately. So to sum up, I take a lot of the blame myself. I could have chased more and been more prompt myself. I have no complaints against the journal, editor or referees. They did a thorough job and were helpful, so I'm happy to forgive them for the delays. It's not a ground breaking paper, but I think it's a cute little result in linear algebra that I think students could read, too. Maybe this will generate more interest in the content and lead to improvements. Maybe it will become my most cited paper?

This hasn't become my most cited paper, but is my most popular paper on social media! :-) For those who didn't see my reply to Torkil that was included in his original post, I will quote it again.
