How important is the birth control policy that China has adopted? Should India adopt it too?

Should India adopt the One Child Policy that is China's idea to control its population? India's population is increasing at an alarming rate. Within years this would result in a space and food crunch, if not present already. In light of this, how important is it for India to adopt a birth control plan?

Answer:
That policy didn't really work out perfectly for China as a Google search would reveal. People have grown up without connected families and that can have other effects. A birth control plan is necessary for sure but since we have an experiment and its results visible I feel we should focus on other and better ways. Education and proper treatment of corruption so that resources are properly utilized would be good starting points.
