Is it possible to have graphic packs for Android?

What is the reason for all Android flagship phones having bigger screen size greater than 4.5"?

  • iPhone 5 has great display, powerful processor, LTE and decent battery yet packs itself in 4". Are there any limitations in Android that prevent manufacturers from designing flagship phones in 4-4.3"? I read some where there are primarily two reasons and not sure if they are true: Android OS is based on Desktop OS and hence to improve resolution within 4 inches that match with Retina display would make UI elements small whereas in iOS this is not a problem since the implementation is different. Hence Android OEM's are increasing screen size and packing more pixels to overcome this shortcoming. LTE phones drain battery a lot and hence big screen phones can come with bigger batteries to satisfy power hungry LTE and other processes. For example, Nokia Lumia 800 was smaller than Nokia Lumia 900 and only major thing that separates them is LTE. But if that is the case, how iPhone 5 with LTE is managing this problem? Can some one clarify if these claims are true?

  • Answer:

Both claims are wrong. 1. Android has always been a mobile operating system and is not really suited for desktop use. Android phones used to be much smaller than the current iPhone a couple of years ago, yet the UI elements were just as big as today, but not as sharp. 2. One of the biggest battery consumer on a smartphone is the screen. The bigger, the more battery it uses. Therefore it wouldn't really make sense to take a bigger screen for better battery life. So why are Android phones so much bigger than the iPhone? Because people want them. They have realized that with a bigger screen you have a lot more content to look at. And some people have always said that these phones are too large, but still these phones have a huge market share. Even the iPhone had to bow to that trend, otherwise there would not be a 4 inch screen on the iPhone 5. That's as simple as it is. Of course one can debate about the maximum size a phone can have, but even huge phones (such as the Galaxy Note) sell like crazy. It really comes down to user preference and people get that choice with Android and they don't with the iPhonr.
