What is the marketing career and what do you do?

What is a good Digital Marketing career path?

  • For example; with an educational background that includes a Business Admin - Marketing Diploma, a Professional Digital Marketing Certificate from the Canadain Marketing Association, combined with 3 years of Project Management in the Market Research industry, and the entrepreneurial experience of starting and managing 2 small companies. Should I go for a digital agency or client side, what kind of jobs should I target to begin my new career in Digital marketing?

  • Answer:

Target jobs where you can demonstrate a hard skill. "Strategy" or "Account Management" are not hard skills. Front End Developer, Paid Search Manager, Content Marketing, User Experience, CRM Database Administration are hard skills.

Depends on what you want to do. Soft-side Account Management and Strategy are quite interesting if you want to head towards a General Management / CEO type of role in the future. Other skills are more specific and have a different career path (Developer -> CTO, UX -> Designer) etc.

Official definition of Digital Marketing according to Google: http://www.stateofdigital.com/defining-digital-marketing/ Depends on which part of the purchase funnel or fish (https://www.ometria.com/.../the-purchase-fish-new-ways-we...) you are impacting and the comparatively better results you are generating against industry standards. e.g. industry standards suggest that CAC is USD 1.0, you are making it happen in USD 0.9, so you'll be compensated/rewarded on top of your existing fee/salary 30% of the savings.Read up on behaviorial economics and conduct research to understand the motivations of the buyer between each phase of the purchase funnel. Its great that you are planning to pursue a career in this emerging field. The field is full of job opportunities and now universities too has started providing degree courses in Digital Marketing. To start a career in this field you should first complete your degree in this speialisation. My suggestion is; Choose any one-of-the-given specialization in Digital Marketing either SEO, PPC, Social Media or Google Analytics, and work hard on it for 6 months to a year. It's important to have a specialization while having an understanding of complete digital media. Other skills that would be add-on bonus for your growth is MS-Excel, analytical, creative ad lines etc., Last, will suggest to take up Google AdWords PPC
