What's the best way to grow dandelions?

  • Yes, grow, not pull :p I'm relatively new to gardening, and I wanted to grow dandelions for their greens and roots. About a week ago, I bought some dandelion seeds and decided to germinate them in 2 different ways. One was sowing them directly into the ground (as per some eHow instructions I just laid them on top and lightly patted them into the ground so they don't go anywhere), and the second was on a plate filled with a thin moist layer of eco-earth (coconut husk-based substrate), topped with a plastic sheet with areas for ventilation and put it in a west-facing window (there are no south-facing windows) After about two days, I noticed the plate in the windowsill got very hot with the plastic covering, and the seeds looked more brown than usual. So I took the cover off and just misted it regularly. The seeds browned again, but I'm not sure if that means they're dead or not. I tried a third method by putting some seeds in a cup and placing them in a terrarium for my lizards, which provides both heat and UV light. I think I'm seeing some seed activity here. With that in mind, it's been a week and still no major activity. I am seeing some plants sprout, but I'm not sure they're dandelions. The most common sprout I'm seeing looks a lot like an isolated purslane sprout. What kind of a gardener am I if I can't even grow a weed? P.S, here's what most of the sprouts look like: Looks like purslane to me?     Yes, grow, not pull :p I'm relatively new to gardening, and I wanted to grow dandelions for their greens and roots.
