What is social network?

What would you want from a new social network?

  • What are some new ideas for a new social-network start-up? What are the features you wish to have on it? Edit: If a new social network were to come out what would you expect from it? What features or removal of features would you like when compared with current social networks? (I.e. Facebook is BLOATED, maybe a pared down style harboring back to the early days before all the game invites, etc..) Would it have a good amount of features like Facebook but with a more streamlined interface? Or would it be totally simple and focused on single thing like Instagram was until recently? (I.e. no short videos, just photos, even messaging isn't really straight forward) Are there features that don't currently exist that you would be interested in? What if the site didn't aggregate user data for marketers and advertisers and instead had a different revenue model? Maybe, a monthly/yearly subscription (something cheap obviously), which means there would be no advertising and more focus on the user and content.

  • Answer:

Start a group on Facebook. You can start groups and add whom you want. Or people can join it. That's been fun. You can do the same thing on LinkedIn too. They can be open or closed groups. Become a group leader of something.

1. Where my friend list has real people. 2. Real people who won't mind talking to me. 3. Real people who won't feel insecure of sharing their stories with me. 4. Where a 3rd person won't come in and give me advice on which brand car should I buy or what insurance should I take. 5. If I play a game I should really find an interested team and shouldn't poke random people asking to play some dumb game with them.

Do user research. Try to find problems that are not addressed on current platforms. Try to conduct field studies and discover what people want. Just asking directly like you have done here might not be the best approach. Years as an User Experience professional and Professor showed me you shouldn't ask for functionalities, but try to understand people's problems.

Social networking site which contains less advertisements mainly and also contains some features like it provide each user a space which can be used as a blog where he can share  useful data publicly and site provide a space where user can ask anything he want like quora and people can meet other people belonging to the same stream or field of interest/profession as linkedin provides. In short a combination of quora , blogger , Facebook , Linkedin .
