What are good science courses?

Computer Science: What computer science courses will help me the least with real software engineering?

  • related to:   Certainly, all courses are beneficial in some way, but what are the courses that are less beneficial than others and why?

  • Answer:

Programming language courses. After one or two to get started, most courses for programming languages aren't much use, because you can just read the fancy manual. Now, comparative language courses are great, especially if there's enough info to help you see how the underlying principles differ. But getting a course in Hoojimongle, beyond an initial one to learn the language that is generally used at the university, is just for fun. Please note that I'm talking about real software engineering, not hacking an http://ASP.NET website, and I'm talking about real CS, not vo-tech.
