How can I use several windows by Ribbon?

Why doesn't Microsoft use release version numbers as the public names of Windows versions?

  • Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Microsoft_Windows_versions makes it obvious that "original" Windows ran from version 1.01 to version 4.90 (Windows ME), while Windows NT started at 3.1 (to match Windows 3.1 which was available at the time) and hit version 5.0 with Windows 2000. Since Windows XP, everything has been unified on the NT kernel, so why not just call them Windows 5.1, 6.0, 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3, instead of 2000, XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1? • Answer:

Putting aside Microsoft's history of clunky names, it's irrelevant. In much the same way that space combat in television and movies isn't portrayed with proper Newtonian physics, it gives Microsoft the wiggle room to be imaginative. Not everything needs to be so dry and literal, especially in regards to software, which is already a tough branding exercise as-is.

Microsoft does not use release version numbers because it probably contributes to a less appealing brand image. Windows 7 isn't called Windows 6.1 as Microsoft wants users to think it is a brand new version of Windows instead of just a "update" to Vista. (In fact, Windows 7 uses version 6.1 to maintain compatibility with Vista.) With more creative or simpler version names, Microsoft can reach to a broad, less technical audience.
