What are some ways (or effective ways) that people use Twitter?

• - I often hear people use Twitter to find out people with similarities and search content and it is often a very effective way to communicate - I have a twitter account for over an year but I never felt it that way. May be because I do not know how to use it effectively - I am an software engineer by profession so I really like to know latest tech trends, jobs, open source software and general news around me. Although I get news feeds, I never communicated with anyone over twitter, may be I do not know how to use twitter to communicate with people - Please share your ways to use twitter, I am looking forward to hear about it

  Using Twitter in a good way is not that hard but it's not that easy either. I was an ineffective Twitter user once, I was tweeting about what I am doing now, what I want to do, or just mumbling around, and that is not good. For me, Twitter usage is more like to share thoughts and interacting with people, and what I see it's like an online text message that is visible to people who follows you, so indeed it's a very good media to communicate because it's compact and fast for information sharing. To communicate with people in Twitter, you better ask for your real friends or maybe some acquaintances for their Twitter accounts and start following them, so then if you need them or when they 'launch' an idea or an information you can start to discuss it or ask something, don't just follow things you like or topics feed or celebrity, because it'll make you became just an ordinary spectator of timeline and you don't want to be like that on Twitter.
