When is the best time to apply for internships?

What is the best time to apply for CSE internships (as in which year)? Also name few internships.

    CSE is a branch where you can get a lot of options for internships because of the sheer number of startups. I wanted a research internship after my 2nd year which I carried out in IISc and an industrial one after my 3rd year at Microsoft. I would say that after 2nd year would be a good time mainly cause even if you do take up an internship after 1st year it would not be very effective and it will be difficult to get mainly because of your inexperience. The better path would be to maybe take a course in some topic which you want to improve. After 2nd year you would have decent knowledge and that would be the time where you can gain a good experience doing an internship. Places like IISc and some startups are ideal places then. In your 3rd year depending on what you want to persue you can do an industrial internship from the companies which visit your college if you want to take up a job or do a research one abroad or at a more specific field in places like IISC, TIFR, ISI. I would also urge you to take up some courses from online sites such as Coursera, Udacity, Edx. They have varied topics and are pretty interesting and very informative.

After 3rd year (i.e. after 6th semester) because till then u would have studied enough topics/ courses to get a decent internship. But if you get a call from a good company during 3rd year, u can do it after 5th semester itself. Hi, For a 3rd year student , December is the perfect time to apply for internships. One should start preparation right from the second year only! If You're currently in second year, Improve your coding skills Do few good projects and improve your resume. Try to get any good startup internships even if the stipend is less or there is no stipend. Startup Internships are a great way to learn a lot of things.
