Why students are asked to use pencil till 5th standard and later on pen

Answer:
There is no psychological reason, just a logical one. Children up-to 5th standard are pretty young and are still learning to write properly. They make plenty of mistakes.Usage of a pencil helps then correct the mistakes with the help of an eraser. Usage of of pens at such an early age would result in 1. untidy notebooks (due to frequent mistakes), 2. messy hands (I've seen children draw on themselves with pens), 3. fights over color of ink (True story) When the children as grow older, they are considered mature enough not to do the above and hence allowed to write with pens.
