What classes to take for architectual design?

which major/classes would be best to take during freshmen year to study UX design?

  • Hey, everyone! I am soon to start my first year of college and I'm very interested in UX design. I've been scouring the internet for help in choosing which major/classes would be best to take but haven't found much. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Answer:

Since UX is a multi-disciplinary field, I recommend taking classes in: 1.Psychology & anthropology to learn about human behavior 2. Graphic design to learn about visual communication and aesthetics 3. Computer science to learn coding skills to build interactive prototypes and logic 4. Economics to learn how things outside of UX field influence it because UX doesn't exist in vacuum. Outside of formal education, make sure you follow the development in the industry by following blogs and other sources of information (ie Quora) about UX.

I have taken a HCI course before and here are the modules/classes I found useful: Cognitive Science & Psychology: how human beings think and behavior; Human-Computer Interaction: how people interact with digital things; Research Methods for HCI: qualitative and quantitative research methods that can be used in the design and evaluation life-cycle of interactive systems; Requirements Engineering: how to elicit user requirements and integrate them into the life-cycle of interactive systems; Prototyping & Designing & Coding: Tools, skills and relevant techs that you need to build deliverables.
