What is a research paper vs. a white paper?
-
What is the eligibility criteria for writing one? Is there a specific format in which they have to be written? Are there other forms of 'Papers' that one can write to publish his research data/algorithms? I have done some research around market trends and have some fascinating results (data and algorithms). Should I publish them as 'Research paper' or 'White paper or something else?

Answer:
Forget white papers, research papers are what you're looking for. There are no eligibility criteria for writing them, you just need to make sure that your research is up to standard. Find a journal that's relevant to your research. On the website, there should be a section called "Instructions for Authors", or something similar. That will have all the information you need on how to write and format your paper for submission: the page limits, how to treat diagrams, citation styles, etc. Once it's all written, sumbit it through the website. Eventually the editor will get back to you with either an outright rejection, or a message that it's been sent to peer review. After a few months of reviewing and revisioning, it should hopefully be accepted and it'll be published whenever there is space in a new issue (or directly online, depending on the journal). It's the standard procedure with any scientific research. White papers aren't used in science, they're more governmental things. If you work as a scientist for a company, you will produce grey papers - technical reports and the such. Depending on the contract, you might be able to get them published as research too.

A research paper, otherwise called a paper, is something you use to publish research in a journal. It gets peer-reviewed and either accepted or rejected. It usually costs money to publish, because journals. There are very specific formats, and they vary from science to science. This really annoyed me when I was working at an interdisciplinary research institute. Often, the journal will send it back to you for revisions. There are some really prestigious journals that won't charge you (though they often will for pictures), but you are probably not going to get into them unless you're an established academic or have one as a mentor. There are some lousy journals that will accept anything. The reputation of a journal is very important. You can also present results at conferences, and your paper will be in the proceedings. It's a bit easier to get accepted. If you are, they might waive the conference fee, but you still have to pay to get there. You'll be expected to have some sort of Keynote or Power Point presentation and talk for a while. Some conferences have technical sketches or the like for work in progress. These are easy. There are also poster sessions. You make pieces of paper with big text yourself. Then you pin them to a board in a big hall and stand around waiting for people to wander over and read it, if it's interesting. "White paper" is largely a nonsense business term, referring to a long document used for sales and marketing. It also means a government policy document.

A research paper is just what you call it when you write down your research for publication, it's nothing more mysterious than that. If you're not familiar with them then the best thing to do is to read other papers on similar topics to your own research, and see they style in which they are written. In terms of format, this is often specified by the journal that you submit it to. I've only ever heard the term "white paper" in reference to government policy documents, which aren't relevant to what it sounds like you want to do.

Originally, the term white paper was used as shorthand to refer to an official government report, indicating that the document is authoritative and informative in nature. Writers typically use this genre when they argue a specific position or propose a solution to a problem, addressing the audience outside of their organization. Today, white papers have become popular marketing tools for corporations especially on the Internet since many potential customers search for information on the Web. Corporations use white papers to sell information or new products as solutions that would serve their customers' needs. write my essay , http://www.premieressay.net/write-my-perfect-essay

A white paper is common in government and is not really important. Scientific papers deal more with grey papers such as reports and other publications. What is important in this case is a research paper which is research that is thoroughly done on a particular topic and presented in words. It has structure and may or may not provide for a new invention. Research papers are published depending on the quality of research and articulation of the findings. If you are in the category of those who need http://essaymama.org/ then it is unlikely that your paper will be published. However, as long as you know that you have given the research your best shot, then you are able to forward the research paper to an editor of a publication. Some will flat out reject the paper which is a good thing as it takes you back to the drawing board. The more your write and research, the better your chances of getting published are. Others will forward the paper for peer review which determines whether or not your paper is published. If your peers approve of the paper then you are published. But if they do not, then you have to redo the paper and improve on it then resubmit.
