What's the best way to do live video streaming on the move?
-
From July next year, I'm going to be walking from Beijing to London over the period of 5 years, and I'm looking for advice on the best way to hook up a front camera on my chest, and a back camera on my backpack, allowing me to live stream some of my journey. I'm basically just looking for tech suggestions or advice on the setup.

Eeep! Two problems here. 1. You need a live streaming provider 2. You need to stream from a remote location (data transfer) For number 1, the popular services include Live Stream, Ustream and more recently YouTube would be your best bet. For number 2, this is a technology that is still in progress. Viddy and Social Cam dominate this market for this data tranfer from your smart phone. As this is a new industry others such as Bambuser might be acceptable solutions! My main question is - does it make it significantly better to have it live streamed? Why not submit the content once you have Wifi? Sounds like an awesome adventure... take photos every day and keep both a private and public blog! Reach out to GoPro and see if they will sponsor it.

I'd suggest that you try out our service, http://bambuser.com - it is free for personal use. We support live streaming from a lot of smart phones (currently when writing this around 430 models). Getting a live stream from a smart phone is easy with our apps. We've done quite a few tests with our service, and judging from that, I believe you will have two main issues to worry about: 1) 3G data connectivity in remote places 2) Getting phone batteries to last. The plus side with using smart phones will also be that you can find very lightweight and portable ones. So you might be able to have some fully charged for backup for when battery drains out in another.

This could be a good option http://www.streamingvideoprovider.com/ezecaster-mobile.html So essentially you just need 2 iOS devices with mobile internet and you are good to go. You can stream live to player embedded on your site or posted on Facebook or shared video link so viewers can watch you live. You can even do PPV and monetize your event

India has its fair share of innovation and this holds true in the field of live streaming with http://www.instalively.com/ It is a live streaming mobile app that streams video from your phone's camera to your YouTube account and posts the streams to be played on your Twitter Facebook and Whatsapp. You should probably check it out for it's variable bit rate streaming (That lets you stream no matter how bad internet is.) and the good usage of social media integration.
