What HD camera should I invest in?

What is the best type of digital camera for live feeding to a projection?

  • I am performing a show where I want to illustrate tiny objects and pictures to a large audience. To do so, I will be moving a digital video camera around a table and projecting its view. I have found most new HD digital cameras go into an automatic slideshow mode when a video-out cable is hooked up. Should I just purchase an older SD digital camera? Should I invest in something more professional than the HD / SD handycams that would handle this job very well? What do you think the best camera would be for this type of event?

  • Answer:

The normal answer is a digital presenter by e.g. Elmo, designed for projecting images from documents but you can zoom in on smaller objects. I had a consumer HD camera with digital tape that had an HDMI output, that could be used as a digital presenter. I forget the model. Or you could use a laptop and a USB camera - some of those have HD quality at low frame rates, and are cheap.
