Is film school worth it?

Is the New School certificate in Film Production legit? Worth it? Complete in its instruction?

Does the New School certificate program in film production provide a solid foundation in filmmaking? How does it stack up against the Tisch summer programs? Are the instructors good? Knowledgable? Industry professionals?

Honestly, I don't know if it's "legit" or not because I'm of the mind that you can teach yourself the things you need to know about theory and practice. This program might have some insight on trending markets in New Media (web, transmedia etc.), but having been in the Industry for a decade, I'm going to tell you that I have never hired anyone, nor do I know anyone who's hired someone because they had a degree or certificate in film production. Attending this program is a decision you're ultimately going to have to make on your own. I know you're looking for feedback to get a more well-rounded opinion. My opinion is save your money, buy equipment and go shoot movies. It's going to be a better teacher than a classroom.
