OS X: Is it correct to assume the following: Photo Stream uploads my photos automatically (since I've told it to) and when/if the Photo Stream space gets full, Photo Stream replaces the oldest photos to make room for mew photos?

If so, Photo Stream is just a sort of temporary image copy, and I need to make my own, local image backup as well. Well – sometimes, Photo Stream has backed up my photo before I have made my own backup, and iPhoto tells me the photo is already saved – in Photo Stream – which is just a temporary copy. Have I gotten this all wrong?

Photos in Photo Stream are temporary. Photo Stream just makes your new photos appear in all your devices, but iPhoto automatically back up your Photo Stream every month, creating a new event named"Date+Photo Stream".

Thanks! Dun - I didn't realize that the Photo Stream Event was a copy! That makes the setup complete. This means I no longer need to manually download my iPhone photos. Well - I still need to connect to iPhoto to erase all photos. Unless I want to erase them one at a time in the iPhone.
