Should I use Facebook Ads or Promote Post to increase awareness of my website?

  • I can either run FB ad with a link to my site or I can make a post on my page with a link to the About page on my site. Which would be most effective in driving new users?

    I prefer Facebook Ads to the Promote Post feature. Facebook Ads can be set up with a daily budget and set to promote your 'Most Recent Post'. That means that any link you post on your page will automatically get promoted (once approved by Facebook). Look at it this way - running a 'Most Recent Post' Facebook Ad will give you a steady stream of website visitors (providing you include a link to your website in your updates). A Promoted Post is more of an instant results feature as it will send your update out to however many people you're willing to pay for and then it will fade away out of the news feed quickly after.

I would choose Facebook ad instead of promoted post. To add on to what Mike Russell had mentioned, promoted posts only appear higher on news feed of your friends and subscribers while Facebook ad allows you to reach out to your ideal customers with details such as age, interests, location and gender.

Promoted Posts are great at reaching your fans in their News Feed. i.e. on mobile. Facebook ads appear primarily on the side bar. News Feed ads are significantly more engaging, and more and more people use Facebook via mobile, so I would use them.
