  • Would like to spend about 1 month travelling through the countries by train but when is the best time to go to experience the best weather, the see their local celebrations?

    Very short answer... mid-August to mid-September is the best time... weather is really nice throughout the Europe. Most of the things you cannot enjoy later on because it gets too cold from October. You get to see ice-caves in Austria, King and Queen Fjords in Norway, Flam railway journey & Northern Lights again in Norway Sea-cruises, full of party people on Friday nights, on Stockholm-Talinn-Helsinki route (i.e. Sweden-Estonia-Finland) good time to travel to beaches in Spain, Nice (France), Greece Snow gardens on Mt. Titlis (Switzerland) Cannes Film festival in France Italy-Greece sea-cruise terminating in enjoying festival at Corfu island (Greece) Enjoy Tomatino festival in Spain (around Aug 23) and Oktoberfest in Germany (mid-sept) Sky-diving at various places (cheapest in Prague) All other things in Europe...Paris, Berlin, Munich, Amsterdam, Madrid, Sevilla, BeNeLux, iBiza (Portugal) ...you can visit at this time as well as other times. But maximum chance to explore the unique things in the list above will be missed out in other time windows. Oh, and for travelling by train, I would suggest you take Euro Rail - Global Pass for 1 month to cover all this. Will be extremely cost effective.

The weather may not be predictable in February, but you could go to Nice and see the carnival.  From Nice the train ride to Menton through Monaco is short but very picturesque. the lemon festival is on in Menton also during February.  The train ride from Nice to Avignon is very nice.It is worth knowing when the Easter holiday is because there are many festivals across Europe around this time though the weather may not be fantastic.May and June are both great months to travel through Europe.  The weather is not at its warmest but the countries are blooming.  July and August may have the warmer weathers but it is also the time when school kids are off and many people are travelling so it is very busy.The train site http://www.seat61.com is very informative about train trips.Hope this helps.

May to July are best months. Infact good to avoid July as it is peak holiday /vacation time. Personally I prefer May or June in Europe.
