How did plants evolve?

What would happen if plants evolve and develop skills to walk/move?

  • What if plants evolve to become mobile in say, about 100 million years from now? Can animals survive if this happens in the evolutionary process? What will animals evolve to? Will animals and plants be co-operative to each other or will the fittest one survive? Also, if humans (or some evolved descendants of homo sapiens) identify this kind of evolution in plants in early stages; should we (or our descendants) stop it from happening?

  • Answer:

The theory of Evolution is centered around the concept that things change over time and tries to explain the processes by which that happens. In general, evolution states that out of one species, many species will result and some will not be successful. It doesn't really make prediction about what those species will be like. Just that there will be more diversity than you started with. Suggesting that the many, many species of plants will all develop the same new trait of mobility is counter to what evolution predicts. Also, when new species develop, you can't really use the old species label any more. Homo Sapiens won't evolve new traits and still be the same species. They will develop new traits and those people that have the new traits will eventually have enough new traits to be a classified as a separate species. Meanwhile, the species we are familiar with continues or dies out. We don't say that horses "evolved into" zebras, mules and jackasses; partially because horses are still around. Instead, at some point, species diverged from an original stock (which might still exist, I really don't know the genetics of these animals well enough to say).

"The Day of the Triffids" is a post-apocalyptic novel about (...) the rise of an aggressive species of plants, published in 1951 by the English science fiction author John Wyndham.

Plants already can move within various limits. One that you can observe with the naked eye is the venus flytrap: Plant also can move by growing in a direction they wish to go, such as toward sunlight.  This is slow enough we dont normally think of it as motion but its really just a mater of time-scale. Sped up to "our time" it looks like this...

I'll answer all your questions in order: What if plants evolve to become mobile? Well, they will run away from us and the famous Veg vs Non veg battles will no longer be biased. Eventually like animals, plants too will develop a self defence mechanism. Aggressiveness is another possible trait considering carnivorous plants. Also, grandparents then will no longer use "We used to relax below that tree" Or, Johnny Blaze's hier will no longer find the J + R tree at that place anymore. And Indian writers like Gulzar and Raghuvindra Yadav will no longer be able to pursue writing (which is always based on particular plants and trees) Can animals survive if this happens in the evolutionary process? Well, that depends. I would consider the animals to evolve too. Or in anyway the animals will outrun the plants. Except Elephants, so I would expect them to be thinner down the years. So most of the herbivores will survive and hence will the carnivores. What will animals evolve to? Will animals and plants be co-operative to each other or will the fittest one survive? It depends on how the conditions change and that animals too will have increased mobility and handling. It will be just like it is now, or how it has always been. Thats nature's amazing balance, a similar food chain. Also, if humans (or some evolved descendants of homo sapiens) identify this kind of evolution in plants in early stages; should we (or our descendants) stop it from happening? I dont think we should. We cannot just step in and hinder evolution, that's millions of years of change, it is taking place at this time too. We should rather stop screwing our surroundings at once.

Nice question wish this could happen but it could be dangerous too.. Few things i can say , Will definitely happen are  1. Everyone would be happy . Whole world would look green. 2. They combat the climate change 3.We get clean air 4. provide more economic opportunities 5.cool all the streets 7.conserve more energy 8.save water 9.Help prevent pollution cannabis  addicts can enjoy, Cannabis plants would be available easy. If plants can move,  trees will also start to move. If we try to take advantage of them, They would also start thinking how to smash us.

Everyone will be a non vegan....since lay parlance, not scientifically....mobility is the primary character that differentiates plant and animals....We still eat meat, we keep on doing it...We will have pets for sure, as gardens would no longer be stationary. The perception will alter in the beginning and a sense of agitation will evolve, but drastic effect is hardly possible other than the problem of photosynthesis and cellular respiration imbalances.
