Why won't my app run in the IOS simulator?

Does a multitasking iOS app still run in the background after a App Store update?

  • For example, would a VOIP app, which has an open socket which is notified of incoming traffic before the App Store update, have a chance to re-establish that socket after an App Store update? Or does the App have to wait for the user to open the App first?

  • Answer:

The app would not launch automatically, at least not in the current (6.1.3) version of iOS. This is, arguably, a bug, and radars have been filed with Apple about this.

The app doesn't continue receiving notifications. A user would need to launch it at least once after an update before the app starts working again. Not sure if a radar has been filed for this with Apple but I haven't seen an Open Radar for this yet. Probably you can file a bug with Apple and update open radar.

It has to wait for the user, doesn't start automatically after the update for sure - and as until today. :)
