Will we able to buy phones in the near future that allow us to choose an OS of our choice?
-
Will phone hardware manufacturers introduce phones in the future that will allow us to choose the operating system that we should place on those phone? With so many portable OS coming into picture is that a possibility?
-
Answer:
Nokia's N900 was one such device - Though it had Maemo on it, one could install Android on it. But all such efforts right now are only at a very geek level. It might move on to enthusiasts and so on soon. While the possibility might come for it to hit mainstream, in practice it might never happen. After all, even on PCs, how many people actually install OS-es themselves! They just use whatever it gets shipped with (Windows usually), right?
