What will be the best career for electronics and communication engineer?

Apart from studying seriously what does it takes to make best career in Electronics &Communication field?

  • Suppose a undergraduate student studies at medium level Engineering college, where unlike IITs and MIT very few resources are available. Than apart from studying seriously what all things he must do and what all steps he must take to develop a best possible career like IITians do in his field , more precisely Electronics &Communication field?

  • Answer:

Adding to what said. I'd like to add a few more points. 1. Practice: A lot of practice is important and you should not just do it for the sake of doing it. 2. Networking: You need to network in events like IEEE Conference  Here is an example: And events like Electronics Rocks. http://electronicsrocks.com/ Mostly avoid going to the technical fests if you are not going to participate in something solid like robotics competitions, project presentations etc. I wouldn't even recommend you to participate in Paper Presentation events as they are not even worthy, though you can be a spectator. If you are good enough to go to IEEE events, why don't you do real research? 3. Reading Tech Magazines/Blogs: By tech magazines/blogs I don't mean Digit or Computer World or Engadget or Gizmodo, I mean http://www.eetimes.com/, http://www.efymagonline.com/(EFY), http://www.electronicsforu.com/newelectronics/default.asp Read a few articles which interest you in your free time, holidays etc. I'm sure your world view on electronics will change. 4. Know the Job: To succeed in any field you should know the job, some of the successful people who work in the Electronics industry attribute their curiosity to knowing the job right when they are studying by doing internships, projects in companies etc. Additionally, you can go through Job requirements in companies like Qualcomm, TI etc 5. Find your interest: Not everyone studying ECE or EECS goes into chip design or VLSI, there are many things in ECE itself, starting from Programming, Communication Engineering, Engineering Physics(YES, Semiconductors, Material Science, Photonics etc), Robotics, Remote Sensing, etc and there are many more which you and I might not even heard about. So, keep your eyes and ears open. 6. Find a mentor or become one for yourself: I know in India it is very difficult to find a mentor in places other than IITs/NITs/BITS-Pilani and few good Universities/Colleges. If you cannot find anyone, don't worry you have the whole internet for you. Quora, Stackexchange are all there for you with high quality experts who are there to help you in your academics, but you should also try your best to learn as much as possible before asking any kind of doubts. http://eecs_ece-and-cs.quora.com http://stackexchange.com/ 7. Do a MOOC: If you didn't hear about https://www.udacity.com/, https://www.edx.org/, https://www.coursera.org/, then head over and take a few courses of your interests, particularly learn programming and other studies like Neurobiology, interdisciplinary is the key to success in ECE career, you can invent brain-machine interaction robot and stuff like that. 8. Open up your mind: You need to imagine a lot, because "Imagination is more important than knowledge" ~ Albert Einstein.

ECE is indeed a very interesting field with a lot of opportunities. I graduated this year as an ECE engineer and have a few insights to share with you based on my personal experience. Academics: is not enough. What you are studying is most likely to be obsolete stuff and not up to date with latest technologies. Try to go beyond theory and acquaint yourself with the practical, real life applications of what you are studying. Projects: Student satellite projects are quite a rage now-a-days, you could get associated with one. If you cant find any in your college, start one of your own. (Link to IIT-B's satellite project: http://www.aero.iitb.ac.in/pratham/ ) Co-curricurals: Take an active part in technical clubs like IEEE chapter of your college. Participate in inter collegiate presentations and tech-fest competitions- it would make you meet interesting people and build contacts.  Research: Be aware of all the latest happenings, trends in your field. Read magazines like IEEE spectrum. IEEE itself holds a number of online project/technical paper competitions- build a team and get working.  Final year project: is your chance to put all your engineering learning to make something worthwhile. Don't settle for something safe and tested, go ahead and make something innovative. Even if you fail, you learn tremendously and that's what matters in the end. All the best!

I finished ECE from a school whose resources and of course reputations with the field were really limited. hence, my confidence level never got boosted even when I had my oath taken with PRC. Entering the real world in terms of career searching was very narrow. I had been thinking always that at the instant an IITian may have been hired already though no PRC license yet ever recorded his/her name.  To make it short, best careers with ECE were never developed but rather chased. School affiliation may be a great factor but still what would matter is your attitude to actually not rely on your schools reputation but rather to rely on the growth you may acquire with every situation with every environment and with every co-professionals....

I guess the very first thing that you would need to do is to take off the inferiority in your mind that you are not studying IIT. If IIT was everything in life, the worlds most successful people like STEVE JOBS - My favorite would not have excelled. I know exceptions are apart and not everyone can be STEVE JOBS ,but I guess this is the right age for you think of your strengths and start working on them to realize your goal rather than thinking of IIT which will take you no where. Every person on this earth is gifted with a skill by GOD and its your duty to recognize that and make your life more interesting. Wear your Thinking HAT , explore , be creative and enjoy every bit of what u do in Life and you will see success Have u ever thought if you can create a much better device than an "Iphone " which is very much related to your electronics and communication field ?? These were the ideas that made a difference to a legend like "Steve Jobs". If Steve Jobs was behind MIT, harward not being creative or not following what he wanted to do in his life, there would be no APPLE COMPANY today Last but not the least " LIFE IS NOT ALL ABOUT IIT, IIM and HARWARDS" its much beyond that .. Explore mate :)
