Standard operating procedure (SOP) document for sales and marketing process of an IT startup?

  • I work in an IT start-up of ~15 people which provides services such as web designing, web development and online marketing. We are scaling in terms of project and revenue, however, the sales and marketing process is totally unstructured which makes it hard for us to achieve the optimum from marketing campaign to sales conversion. I want to streamline by making an SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) document which will help us follow certain action steps and also help us in training new employees who would be joining the sales & marketing department. I would appreciate if some one can give me pointers such as process flow, KPI's (key performance Indicators) or  Measurement metrics, Documents to be created and Stakeholders for the sales and marketing process. As of now I have created a tracker in excel which helps us capture the new leads and also analyze what is the current status of different leads - this is all done manually. NOTE: As-Is process does not exist, so i wont be able to give much details about it. However, I would be grateful to people who have taken such a task in an IT company and succeeded in streamlining the sales and marketing process for their companies. First of all: Do you have anyone in the company with profound competences in marketing etc.? If so, you should put him (and his knowledge of the company) in to a Task Force for the following. Basically you have two options: Make or buy an information system for your needs. Make You are a web development team. Your competences may reach as far, as you could set up such a system. E.g. by using a Framework. Buy Use an online service for your web projects. You may just google for something like "web crm" etc. This will lead you to some useful products. I dont't think you will get any SOPs here, as they are mostly confidential.

SOP should be as per company policy and standards.One has to customize it accordingly. Moreover, SOPs are continuous growing document  and has to be reviewed every 6 months or so. So start with the basic pointers you have and keep it growing.You will never be able to create final document in first go. For Excel tracker is a time consuming and manual process, go for dashboards.But keep it in mind, not SaaS based software. For more information get in touch at
