What are three of the newest computer languages today?

  • What are three of the newest computer languages today? Which one of them is predicted to dominate or thrive rapidly in the near future? Why?

  • Answer:

Here's a nearly perfect article to answer your question: http://adambard.com/blog/3-languages-to-watch/ It mentions Livescript, Julia, and Elixir. I've heard of Julia before when diving into data analysis.  Seems it's known for performance and python-like expressivity. Livescript, which I might've heard of in passing, is a more functional version of Coffeescript (as in functional programming) that still compiles down to Javascript. Elixir I definitely haven't heard of.  Wait, maybe I did?  I forget.  Seems like it's a cleaner language than Erlang that runs on Erlang's VM, just like Scala is cleaner than Java but runs on the JVM.  Probably not so extreme a difference though.

Scott gave a near-perfect answer, with one fatal flaw pointed out in the first comment on that page: Go isn't on that list. The reply to that comment gives the reason: the author aimed at listing obscure languages. So, I present to you: Go (http://golang.org/) Go isn't that old - publicly available for use since about 4 years ago. Go has Google behind it. (+1 over Java) Go is already in production use by Google. It has a clean syntax, and most importantly, compiles down to a standalone binary.
