How do cultural exchange in another country?

What is the best way to transfer money from one country to another using the exchange rate without markup?

  • Lets say I live in US and my business operates in UK. Customers send money from UK at current exchange rate minus markup (same markup as banks). In US, I used my funds to send it to their recipients. If I want to get funds from UK, surely the banks will also add markup to the exchange rate and I will not be able to have a revenue from that. Is there any way to get my funds from UK without exchange rate markup?

  • Answer:

I'd be surprised if any firm was able to offer this service free for very long. The reality is that there's a cost to the infrastructure needed to exchange one currency for another. Whether via a commission rate or a bid-ask spread, any firm that is in the business of taking one currency in one place and exchanging it for a different currency elsewhere will have need to get paid for their service. Some credit cards offer no-fee foreign transactions that get exchanged at market rates, but there are still credit card fees being paid by the merchants. If it makes you feel any better, you can think of the commission as the cost to protect yourself against foreign exchange (USD/BPS) rate fluctuation.

TransferWise . com and Payoneer . com are about as close as you can get. You'll still get charged a fee, but it's pretty nominal. You can also use bitcoin, but then you're subject to that price volatility.
