Why Apple use a circle for GPRS?
-
On iOS, Apple use a circle to indicate that the phone use GPRS connection. Why ? It's a E for EDGEL, 3G for 3G and 4G for 4G. Why not a G for GPRS ?

Answer:
They don't use 4G for 4G. 4G shows up on the AT&T 4S/5 when using HSDPA+. LTE is shown on the iPhone 5 and third iPad when using actual LTE. Judging by what you're suggesting though, GPRS and EDGE should say 2G or 1X. After all, GPRS is a type of connection just like GSM or CDMA, which both say 3G in the status bar, and EDGE is a cellular service provider that was purchased and absorbed by AT&T awhile back. My personal idea for the icon choice is to keep everything from looking so similar. I can obviously tell when I switch between LTE, 3G, and °, and it would be more difficult to tell between 4G, 3G, and G. (Not to mention that G implies 1G to me, which is called 1X anyway)
