How can I get an entry level SAP Administrator job?

• I am planning to take the SAP Basis certification exam, in hopes for a better job. I have never had a programming or system admin type job- though I've been making and breaking applications on other platforms for a few years now- mostly on the iOS platform. I can absorb things around me well- but that isn't something that matters to a potential employer. With a Basis certification and no experience- how can I increase my chance for employment, and raise my expected pay? If it helps- I have a friend who is a very sought after senior level basis administrator (who is certified and experienced in all levels of SAP). He could give me valuable 'hands-on' time- but would that help my resume?

  First of all, you should understand if you like what a SAP Basis administrator does. Believe me, is not the same as iOS development. If you are just on this run for the pay, you may just find that you wasted time and money on that certification. Certification might be good while you trying to sell your services to a customer but without hands-on experience in real projects, you will have a hard time finding those first customers. The easiest way is to join a consultancy, with customers, to get that experience. From there you can move on. That will take a few years. Plus, usually SAP Basis guys have strange working hours like the graveyard shift (they need to update systems while most people are at home with their families and/or sleeping). Ready for that?
