What is it like for an American entrepreneur to move to India?
-
Inspired by http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/2013/11/08/india-has-become-a-hotbed-for-tech-incubators/3445257/ A US entrepreneur moves to India to start a company with an Indian co-founder because of the promise of cheaper labour and a good startup environment. Is this the reality of moving to India as a white American entrepreneur? On the surface this seems like an intriguing adventure. Especially for an entrepreneur with a family where India promises cheap housekeeping, childcare and food which are constant expensive annoyances for any entrepreneur/executive in North America. It promises a more conservative environment for rearing children where they won't be exposed to as many of the "decadent" influences of the Western empire. In addition India has been compared to a 'wild west' where the startup environment is risky but exciting. However after reading many of the Quora answers to questions like "Would you move back to India" the reality seems to be more complex. India has problems like any country, and some of these problems are intimidating to a 'westerner' - in particular Issues related to water safety, corruption and infrastructure. If you believe the negative reports it seems like these would wipe out or offset any benefits to moving. However many of these problems seem to be social in nature, where being from a completely different system would free one from issues of caste, cultural expectations from in-laws, and so forth and make them irrelevant to a 'westerner'. So this question is specifically about people like Stewart Alsop - outsiders who move to India to do business. Is it a great idea or just a case of 'the grass is always greener on the other side'?

Answer:
make it happen , you wont regret it! india and indians seem to be on an edge over most ways of life esp in the thought process, seriously out of the box. spend a couple of months in , to find out if the feeling seems fine, and then make the move. it could be a decision you wont regret.
