How To Improve In Secondary Science?

How can we improve our social systems so that society is more able to give equal opportunities to everyone to make meaningful contributions to science and understanding?

  • Anyone who has something valuable to contribute to society ought to have a clear path having their work sufficiently evaluated for its value by a fair system and integrated into society if determined to be valuable by people who are known to assess value wisely and as fairly as a fair judge. What sort of technology, system, or process could provide this service that is essential to our continued cultural and social growth as a society?  Question originating from a comment posted to another answer: Kent Palmer has explained the problem of our social and intellectual system  well. I think that this understanding of the problem allows us to formulate a solution. Kent has said " But even if open source journals take off the real problem is that outside of academia the public has not organized itself yet to act as a community of public scientists so that they can consider what Independent Scholars have come up with along with what is relevant produced in academia to help determine what is relevant and what is not relevant in our general search for meaningful contributions to the cutting edge of science." (Pasted from ) We need to organize as one whole society whose individuals are focused on the well being of the whole social system. We will thrive more when we have organized society and have created a system that is designed to  evaluate and determine the value of each person's contributions to science, society, and the public or shared or commonly agreed upon understanding of reality. We should be able to assess and measure the quantity and qualities of every contributor's understanding/knowledge of all phenomenon and the phenomenon they have most to contribute to the public understanding . A general understanding is as important as a specialized understanding when you want to make a meaningful contribution to society by applying both sets of understanding.

  • Answer:

No, we really shouldn't be able to do that. It would be a complete waste of time. Whatever gems some hidden genius came up with would be lost in all the noise generated by almost everyone else. "We" aren't capable of or qualified to evaluate the scientific validity of most assertions. We don't have the equipment, we don't have the training, we don't have the time or money. And the people who do need to focus on things that have something recommending them as possibly worthwhile.

Meritocracy.  Anyone with the talent and the know-how gets ahead regardless of his social background.  Ability is the only true coin of the realm.

Indian social system is very complex, so here short term measures for improving the system are almost same as the long term measures. Constitution makers have emphasized a lot on Indian socio-economic system as is obvious from our Fundamental Rights, Fundamental Duties and the Directive Principles of State Policy. The only need is honest and efficient implementation. Articles 14,15,16,19,21 are about equal opportunities while it is the fundamental duty of every Indian citizen to develop scientific temper.Hope that helped!!
