Where is there a good place to fish in NJ?

Where is the best place to fish for blue fish on the east coast?

  • I have been fishing the Long Island Sound and NY metro Atlantic for Blue Fish for about 15 years. Back in the day, we'd bring home several large blues apiece each trip. Recently, we've been seeing several blues per boat, per trip at the maximum. My question is, where is the best place to fish for blue fish these days? We know decreasing population is partly to blame for the lack if catch, but I'm wondering if someone out there knows of a place where blues seem to be congregating?

  • Answer:

Bridgeport CT often holds blues all summer long. RI's Narraganset Bay can be teaming with them as well. Where blues end up is hugely a function of water temperature and bait . Rain can also reduce salinity enough within estuaries to negatively impact the plankton that smaller baitfish feed on, When this happens blues stay with schools of bait off the beaches.
