How often are Google Earth Satellite images updated?

Why are Google Maps and Google Earth images different?

  • The other day I was fooling around on Google Maps and we wanted to see a link to a place a client sent us (to a building), but that link or location was for Google Earth app (for desktop, Mac). I noticed that the area shown had more buildings photographed than I remembered, so I checked on Google Maps (on web browser) and noticed that the satellite images were different.

  • Answer:

Because imagery can be cached on your client, displaying for months or years after an image change in Google Earth. Conversely, imagery is not always updated in Google Maps first when new imagery is licensed to Google by the various satellite imaging companies.
