Look at the front of the system and align it so the Wii logo is upright. If the system is mainly vertical, like the original launch wii was designed to sit, then it should play GameCube games just fine. You just might have a dirty lens or something that needs to be cleaned out. If the system lays flat or horizontal, the system has had the GameCube functionality removed (there are no where to plug in GameCube controllers or memory cards). You cannot play GameCube games in this system, even though the Disk Channel still shows a GameCube disk, it cannot be played.
