Nationalism works at it's best when it inspires individuals to strive to be something greater, with the goal of helping their community/country in a beneficial way. Nationalism can breed the best soldiers, policemen, doctors, and even politicians around. However, it can also promote a false sense of superiority, if handled wrongly, and lead to a culture becoming more stagnant and petty. It all depends on the people affected by it, really.
