You must be paid or compensated at the min wage. Yes. Now restaurants do tend to set things where tips are collected and split between staff. That allows them to pay you lower. BUT, tax you at the min wage. Go apply and clear this when hired. IMHO do not ask during interview. OR, better, ask the wait staff first. They know.
