How do I install Comcast internet?

What does it mean when your computer can't pick up the modem signal?

    You must connect computer to modem with a CAT5 cable. The modem device must have the iSP 'username' and 'password' that they gave you, in order to 'log in' to the iSP. Those would be entered into slots on the modem interface, which is obtained by opening a browser first, then in the address bar, type 169.198.X.X (X's being the modem address). Until you get those entered into the modem, you will not get internet to any device. Setup of modem and/or router is not usually (nor should it) connect over WiFi.

Laptop or desktop ? Laptop 99% has built in WIFI and you should just enable it to get connection .Desktop PC need WIFI card installed to get wireless connection . So if you were getting wireless connection before but now it got screwed up check for WIRELESS or WIFI button on laptop .Sometimes people accidentally movi it to OFF position . If it is on restart your laptop and your modem and router if you got one . If none of this apply to your problem reply and I will tell you what else to check.

This is normal for a first time connection of a new device to a wireless network. A laptop does not automatically attach to a wireless signal. The user has to do that. If Comcast has provided and activated a wireless capable router you will see the wireless icon on the right side of your taskbar( bottom right) and it will show that it has a problem Click on it to see a list of available wireless networks. Click on the one that Comcast activated The box will show that it is available and it will ask if you want to connect. Click on connect After the first time, it will probably auto-connect If you do not see a wireless connect available, you may not have a wireless card in your computer If this is the case, you can still attach by using the Ethernet connection to the one of the router ports using an Ethernet cable. The above also applies to when you take a laptop to a coffee shop or other public network. You will have to choose and connect
