Thus, the cathode will lower the Al+3 and the anode will increase the Al+3. cathode: 3e- + Al+3 (1.25 M) =====> Al(s) anode: Al(s) ====> Al+3 (0.050 M) + 3e- Net: Al+3(1.25) ====> Al+3(0.050) Nernst Equation: E = E^o - 0.059/n[Al+3](dilute)/ [Al+3](conc) where n= 3 electron change E = 0 - 0.059/3log(0.050)/1.25 E = -0.02(-1.40) E = 0.028
