Use the plastic sheet to make a bag. Fill the bag with cooking oil. (I usually use a plastic peanut butter jar.) Put the egg inside. Hold the bag upright. Invert the bag and drop it. the egg will move to the middle of the oil. When it hits a shock wave will compress the egg evenly over the outside and the egg won't break. The bag will probably burst so use veg oil, it is biodegradable, so is mineral oil.

I built one for my son for a school project with the same materials several years ago, we wrapped it real heavy in paper and cotton balls then made a parachute with the plastic and string use pipe cleaners for parachute frame, it took several times to get it right but we finally got it to land without breaking, he got a A on it, we did not have the balloon listed on our material list but you could fill the balloon with just the right amount of helium to let the egg float slowly to the ground, tie the egg to the bottom of balloon with cotton balls on the bottom of the egg, you will need to practice with it in order to get the right amount of helium in the balloon, so it will not float up or drop to hard.
