How do you search browse people on facebook?

I want to make some friends. How do I search browse people who aren't just related to my contacts? Maybe live somewhere I don't? Just find random people like a dating site?
Answer:

See the box at the top that says "search for people, places, and things"? I'm not a rocket scientist but I would think this would be the place to put a name in.
