Never plant till after Memorial Day, it is still cold and nasty here.

I live in southern California, I was visiting the garden shop in February! I have a large patio area (no big garden), but it's ablaze with beautiful plants and flowers already.

Be sure they get sufficient sunlight. Transplant those in need of it and add fertilizer. Water well and water when they need it. The Lord will give you beautiful flowers but he does need a little help in tending to their care.

It was snowing on me on Saturday. Today it finally went about 50 degrees for the high. But there will be frosts over the coming weekend. No, I`m not going to the garden centres yet. I work a full time job and I have better things to do first thing in the morning than carting plants out of the garage (where they say overnight so the frost wouldn`t kill them). My vegetable garden is only 100 sq. ft. My flower garden is 900 sq. ft (I used to keep 1400 sq. ft. of flower/perennial garden, so I`ve downsized). This year I will buy (seeds, plants, sets, etc) broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, yellow wax beans, zucchini, carrots, lettuce, bok choy, tomatoes. Lots of herbs. Cosmos, tagetes, nemesia, calibrachoa, petunias, geraniums, snapdragons, annual baby`s breath .. and some more perennials (coralbell, ferns, etc).

Been There

I have, and I have mulched the front garden, seeded the front lawn and planted a few flowers as well. I had allot of cleanup to do after the horrible winter we had, and that's all done now.

As a rule of thumb, it is good to plant only after memorial day I have been tryijng all winter to find a shop or a flower shop which sells snapdragons in which they are my favoritwe flower. I could not find them. but the shop keeper tells me that they will be selling them at most locationms after May I have some in my room and they are very tall. but i want more of them because they are very good plants to grow indoors.

I've never shopped in a garden centre. I used to buy bulbs and seeds in our local market and now that most towns have a Poundland store or a 99p shop I buy my supplies there and have had no problem with what they sell at all. For the past few years I've grown potatoes, onions, leeks, garlic, green beans and tomatoes. Some I plant in the ground and some in grobags and some in containers. They seem to do well whichever I do. So far this year I have just the potatoes in and they look fine. I am planting my onions within a few days after digging over the ground one more time but am concentrating more on having some colourful flowers in my garden this year. I have no back garden so all goes in the front and I just rotate them all.

Sure have. Got the veggies planted. Been looking for flowers but haven't found the ones we want yet. Have added lots of new mulch to some areas.
