When do I use TSA locks for my luggage?

Do you have to use TSA approved locks on 'carry-on' luggage when traveling by airplane?

    I will say no. But, if for some reason your bag sets off an alarm on the scanner, be prepared with the key. I had my bag set off the scanner because I had a few packages of Grits.

I presume you refer to checked baggage - Carry on needs no locks of any kind. You of course must have the article open when you pass the TSA security. Checked baggage - you can used TSA approved locks - no locks or if you use a regular lock - they can and will rip open you bag and leave a little note for your pleasure of throwing away maybe a 100 dollar bag.
