How would you search on google?

How would you edit the Google+ page that automatically shows up in a Google search result?

  • When you search the company name in a Google search, underneath it is a link to the Google+ page. The problem is that the link goes to the generic profile page and not the business page that I created later. How can I make sure that Google search picks up the correct Google+ account. Google+ is not yet linked from our site as we were still adding content to the page.

  • Answer:

I'll continue with ios3d.com for this example, bear with me on the details. The description you see is provided by an HTML "meta" tag, short for "metadata." These tags serve the purpose of providing data about data.[1] In the above image, the underlying page code for ios3d's description is as follows: <meta name="Description" content="IOS Technology produces the IOS FastScan dental scanner, FastDesign software & a dental mill to bring affordable same-day dentistry to your practice." /> This allows Google's to know something about the page, and provide you an authored summary about it. Okay. So all this data that shows up in Search results under the Knowledge Graph for a business is managed through Google+, or Google Maps, or Google Places for Business... It all ties together. It's crawled in a similar fashion, but all those tags and such are taken care of once you've got the fields filled out for the business in question. To edit the information tied to the ios3d business, it can be edited through one of the above services. Below, we have the option highlighted in Google+ Local. To link a Google+ Business page with the Google+ Local result (which shows up in Google Search), you need to claim the business as your own, and authenticate yourself as an owner/employee. From here, you're guided according to your selections. Be warned; The process is not a speedy one. Lastly, please note the Personal Results icon from Google Search beside the result shown in the description. This result is visible to you, likely because your signed in Google account has this page/user added in a Circle. This is not visible in the same way to myself (explaining why the results were so different), and should be treated accordingly. [1] http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_meta.asp
