Honestly, when I was 11 years old in 1966 my parents got tired of my handwriting and shelled out for a typing course at Johnson & Wales (which was then a business school -- it became a cooking school later). It was one of the better times of my life. Look up community college and continuing ed courses in your community. Being in a class with adults will be an added plus.

In the US there are community centers that teach some courses. There are also night school courses at community colleges that can be taken without being in a degree program. If he just wants to study on his own, he could try Python: http://www.greenteapress.com/thinkpython/html/ http://docs.python.org/2/tutorial/index.html http://www.tutorialspoint.com/python/ http://learnpythonthehardway.org/book/ You could both study and learn together.
