How To Cook Asparagus?

Best way to cook asparagus?

  • I love asparagus, but never cooked it myself. I'm having it with roast chicken, spinach and mashed potatoes. I figured I might steam them, but I don't have a steamer. I do ...show more

  • Answer:

Make a foil pouch and put the cleaned and trimmed asparagus in it. Along with butter, salt, pepper, minced garlic and onion. Close the pouch and put it on a baking sheet in the oven at 350 for about 30 minutes or so. I've also taken bacon and wrapped it around a few stalks and baked them in the oven.

Oven Roasted Asparagus Ingredients 1 bunch Asparagus 4 Tablespoons (up To 5 Tablespoons) Olive Oil Kosher Salt To Taste Freshly Ground Black Pepper, To Taste Preparation Instructions Preheat oven to 425 degrees. After you wash the asparagus thoroughly, stack a bunch together and lop off the tough/thick bottom an inch or so. Spread out the asparagus in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet. Pat it as dry as you can, as you don’t want any water to “steam” the asparagus in the oven. Begin by generously drizzling olive oil all over the asparagus and then sprinkle the asparagus generously with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper. Roast the asparagus for about ten minutes. The secret here is for the oven to be very hot so the asparagus can begin to brown on the outside without overcooking and getting too flimsy. You want the finished asparagus to still have a bite to it.

Type "cooking asparagus" into a search engine. You can steam, saute, roast, grill, simmer or microwave it.

You can steam it or roast it. I like to roast it. Toss it with a little olive oil, spread on a cookie sheet and sprinkle it with a little Kosher salt. Roast at 425 for about 10 minutes. It will have the most amazing flavor and texture.

The standard way is to tie the stalks together and stand them upright in a saucepan; add boiling water to a depth or two or three inches; add a teaspoonful of salt; put a lid on the pan, and cook for up to about 10 minutes. That way the tender tips are steamed while the woody bases are cooked through. Now one can buy special asparagus steamers - tall, narrow saucepans with an interior cage (can't think of a better word!} which means you can lift the asparagus out easily. They seem expensive, but I bought one years ago and have had a lot of use out of it.

Hi, I love asparagus too :-) OK i would blanche the asparagus or put another way boil lightly salted water and drop in for maybe 3 to 5 mins. This will avoid over cooking and turning your veg into soft sloppy slime. It took me a while to figure out how long to blanche for but basically put one out after 3 mins and taste, too crunchy? keep on boiling. You'll get the sweet spot eventually. Anothet technique is steaming but ive never got round to getting my steamer out of the box so cant advise on the steaming technique :-) Buona fortuna!

I put them in a loaf pyrex dish and top with butter pats and microwave for about 5 minutes on medium level. I have also "fried" them! a couple pats of butter in saute pan, add enough spears to cover bottom of pan and roll them until they are tender, then remove to platter and repeat as needed to cook all.

Grill or steam. It microwaves well too.
