What are the best schools for MA in Interior Design?

  • And why? How is there approach towards Designing interiors ? Any details of the program will be great. I have a MDES degree from India and I want to pursue another one in Interior Design. I am looking into the offered programs of -RCA London -Glasgow Scotland -Leeds London -Domus Academy Milan -IED Milan -Florence Design Academy -Goldsmith London -UCA Farnham UK -Rhodes Island School of Design Is there any school I have missed? Edit -My area of focus is Interactive Interior Spaces. To give a very basic example for that would be light and sound shows, smart homes etc. It stimulation of various kinds in spaces to evoke a certain preconceived emotion or response in the space. I would like to know which colleges are following this kind of approach to design. I found a link, what do you think of these? http://interior-design-degreee.blogspot.in/2012/06/top-100-interior-design-schools.html

  • Answer:

I'm flattered that yuo asked me but the reality is that I'm not an expert in Interior Design, or schools or Master grades. But of course I have an opinion and I would try to use my intuition to answer this. Hope it works. First, I think schools in Italy are the ones that have the most prestigious curriculums. Maybe they are beginning to be the not-most-trendy schools now, but they're very classy and their range from industrial to interior design is very well covered. So you're going to get a lot of fundamental aspects about interior design. England it's, I think, more plain. Just Ok. They have very good schools of architecture (AA or Bartlett) but I'm not sure how good they are at interior design. I would prefer the more experimental aspect of the schools of Netherlands. I think Holland have the most avant-garde schools of design in the world. I don't want to study a master in design, but if I have to, I would definitley would go to Netherlands. Any school. RISD looks like a good option too. I think they focus a lot of innovation and multidisciplinary. Have you considered Parson's or Saint Martin? I think this two are at the level of RISD. This is all I have.
